Surprises & upcoming shows

We have THREE awesome surprises to be revealed at our Fall concert in 6 weeks.  It will be a whole different show, and we can't wait to show you what we've been preparing this semester.  Soon we'll finish learning a medley and start on a couple of Christmas songs, in addition to Heidi's senior song and a novelty Disney number exclusive to our concert.

If you can't wait until December to hear us, you should come to AcapaROOza on November 16th in the Student Union Ballrooms from 2 to 5pm, where we will perform in a cappella festival featuring all of the following groups:
The Kent Clarks (Kent State University)
Buck That! (The Ohio State University)
Scarlet and Grace Notes (The Ohio State University)
     Ten40 (Bowling Green State University)
Kanga Blue (The University of Akron)
     nUAnce (The University of Akron)
& Rhythm & Roos (The University of Akron), host of the event

In addition to the performances, we will also be raising money for the Ronald McDonald House of Akron.

We hope to see you at both shows!  Bonus points if you wear "kanga" blue (cobalt).  :)

This year was full of accomplishments for the Kangas.

Since the start of the school year, we've learned 15 songs including a killer heartfelt mash-up to surprise our seniors at our spring concert. We established a constitution and internal government and became recognized by the university as a student organization. We had multiple members arrange songs and show off their beat-boxing skills in performances.

Perhaps the biggest accomplishment for Kanga Blue this semester was the bond we'd developed by the time our concert came around. We were together through difficult scheduling, changing rehearsal techniques, losing members to heavy workloads, and struggles that a student-led organization is bound to face in developing a concrete form of government. We developed a closeness and a mutual understanding of how we want the group to grow in following years and were able to debrief and refocus our goals for next year.  We've drafted a set list, with some leeway, and discussed marketing ideas for next year as we recruit new Kangas and reach out to our campus community.

Being apart for the summer months will take some adjusting, as we've gotten used to spending so much time together making music and reinventing the group, but it'll be that much more rewarding when we're reunited in August and singing together again!

Finishing the semester

Only a few more weeks in the semester, but we've still got four--possibly five--performances left!

Tonight, Kanga Blue and nUAnce open for KaZual, a quartet whose music ranges from R&B/hip-hop to rock/pop. At 6:40p, nUAnce takes the stage, followed by Kanga Blue at 6:55p, and finally KaZual at 7:17p. The event will be at the Student Union Starbucks and is sponsored by RHPB.

This Saturday is Relay for Life at the University of Akron with events starting from 4pm and ending with a final ceremony at 7am on Sunday, with more ceremonies & entertainment planned through the night. All three UA a cappella groups will perform at the event, including Kanga Blue at 8pm. Meet us at the Stiles Fieldhouse to support the American Cancer Society in honoring cancer survivors and raising awareness & money to find a cure.

On April 23, RHPB will host an open mic night as part of the 7:17p series. Kanga Blue will open the show, followed by students who have signed up to perform.  Come to the Student Union Starbucks to come hear some student talent!

Last but not least is our First Annual Spring Concert!  We have been anxiously awaiting this evening, and we can't wait to go out with a bang, performing music from this and the previous semester for our friends and family in Leigh Hall on Friday, April 25 at 7p.  It's our last first concert, so be there.  :) Click here to RSVP on Facebook.

Following our final performance for the semester, we will spend our last week winding down, choosing a new executive committee for next school year, and brainstorming music to be arranged over the summer.  What do YOU want to hear Kanga Blue perform next year??

Website Launch

The first ever Kanga Blue website is now public!

As we take steps towards becoming recognized on campus as an organization, we have been working hard to get our name out on campus and in the community.  The newly instated Executive and Marketing Committees will be meeting frequently to book all types of venues throughout the semester.  And of course, we've been fitting plenty of group bonding into our calendar!

We've got a new blend of classic and new songs this semester, and we are super excited to share it all with our friends and family at our first spring concert at the end of the semester.  Other exciting upcoming events including AcapaROOza, an inter-a cappella concert and charity event with Rhythm & Roos and nUAnce.
